Berti Vogts is happy with the appointment of Steffen Freund |
Former Germany international Steffen Freund has been named as a new assistant to Nigeria coach Berti Vogts.
Freund, who is the current Germany under-20 coach, replaces his compatriot Thomas Hassler who quit last month.
He will be part of the Super Eagles technical bench at the African Nations Cup next year.
Freund, who was part of the Germany squad that won Euro 96 under Vogts, will begin work in the New Year.
He will stay on until the end of the tournament, which runs from 20 January to 10 February.
Freund played for English sides Tottenham and Leicester after playing for German clubs Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and Kaiserslautern.
He won two German titles with Dortmund and was part of the Dortmund team that won the Uefa Champions League title in 1997.
