Work is already behind schedule at Green Point in Cape Town |
South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has cancelled a strike which would have affected all 2010 World Cup stadium constructions. The planned downing of tools was prevented after an outstanding wage dispute with employers was settled.
The NUM mainly represents mine workers in South Africa but also has some construction workers under its wings.
The organisation had planned to ask some 14,000 members to go on strike at all World Cup venues.
The move would have been in solidarity with their colleagues at a Durban stadium who were demanding better pay and working conditions.
