Pfister has the task of taking Cameroon to the 2010 World Cup |
Newly-appointed Cameroon coach Otto Pfister has signed a three-year contract with the country's sports ministry. Pfister was officially installed as Indomitable Lions coach during a signing ceremony on Wednesday in Yaounde.
The president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Mohammed Iya, attended the ceremony, but Fecafoot did not sign the contract.
Sports Minister Augustin Edjoa disclosed that Pfister will earn a monthly salary of $41, 000, and that the coach will be given six month's pay in advance.
Pfister was tasked to qualify Cameroon for the 2010 World Cup and to finish among the top three in next year's Nations Cup finals in Ghana.
Lauren in squad
While Fecafoot's decision to not be party to the contract raises questions, Pfister is happy with the arrangement.
"Contract or no contract with the federation, there is no problem," he said.
"I am here to work and give my best to Cameroon football 24 hours a day."
Pfister immediately announced that the Indomitable Lions will begin a training camp in Germany between 15 and 19 November.
Included in the squad for the training camp is Lauren Etame Mayer, who has refused to play for Cameroon since 2002.
