Sfaxien can celebrate a place in the final of the Confederation Cup |
CS Sfaxien of Tunisia have secured their place in the final of the Confederation Cup, thanks to a 2-1 over Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa. The win means they cannot be caught at the top of Group A.
It mean the result of the other game - between Astres Douala of Cameroon and DR Congo's TP Mazembe - was meaningless.
For the record, TP Mazembe won that one 2-1.
But it wasn't a simple task for the Tunisians, who had to come back with two goals in the last 10 minutes to secure the win.
Sundowns took the lead early on in Pretoria, through Peter Ndlovu in the tenth minute, and they held on until the 82nd.
That was when Chadi Hammami pounced to bring the Tunisians level, and restore their chances of making the final.
And all doubt was removed with two minutes to go, when DR Congo striker Blaise Lelo Mbele struck to send Sfaxien through to the final.
Its a chance for Sfaxien to erase the memories of last year's Champions League final, which they lost to a last minute goal from Ahly's Mohamed Aboutrika.
Sfaxien are likely to meet El Merreikh of Sudan in two-legged final.
The Khartoum club need only avoid defeat by a 5 goal margin at the hands of Dolphins on Sunday to make it to the last two.
