Al Ittihad stand between Ahly and another chance at the title |
The Vice-President of Libya's Al Ittihad says his side have "nothing to lose" as they prepare to meet the reigning African Champions this weekend. Ittihad travel to Cairo to take on Ahly in the second leg of their Champions League semi final on Sunday.
The tie is 0-0 from the first match in Tripoli.
"I guarantee that [there is] no pressure at all on any one of the players, because we have nothing to lose," Abdul Majid Saleh told BBC Fast Track on Tuesday.
Ahly are going for an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League crown, and have a fearsome record at home.
They attract big crowds at the Cairo International Stadium - and are unbeaten at home in the Champions League this season.
But Majid Saleh says Al Ittihad are not intimidated by Caf's "African team of the century".
"We are trying to get something new for us, and if we don't get it, we don't lose anything," he said.
Although Ahly are the likely winners, an away goal scored by Al Ittihad would at least make the contest interesting, forcing the Egyptians to press forward for a couple of goals of their own.
And Majid Saleh says Ahly's reputation is not as strong this time round.
"We know that Ahly these days really is not [like the] Ahly of last year and the year before," he said.
The game is in Cairo on Sunday night.
