Zambia to play SA in Cosafa final

Zambia look to defend their Cosafa Cup by qualifying for the final
Defending champions Zambia qualified for a fourth successive Cosafa Cup final after they beat Mozambique 3-0 in the semi-final on Saturday.

Debutants in the makeshift Zambian side scored all three of the goals with Noah Chivuta, Emmanuel Mayuka and William Njovu hitting the back of the net.

Chivuta created and finished the opening goal in the 35th minute with a strong run through the midfield to give Zambia the lead at the interval.

Mayuka, promoted up from the under-20 side that competed at the World Youth Championships in Canada earlier this year, extended the lead in the 69th minute.

The final goal came with Njovu easing his way through a tired defence.

In the other of the day's semi-finals South Africa ended a four-match winless run by edging Botswana 1-0.

Slightly built midfielder Teko Modise scored the winner off a free kick after 32 minutes.

New cap Bamuza Sono, son of South African football legend Jomo, had a shot cleared off the line before Modise scored his third Cup goal this year.

South African Moeneeb Josephs was the busier goalkeeper in the second half, depriving Botswana several times as they pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages.

The final will be played on 27 October, at a venue yet to be decided.

The match offers 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa a swift chance of revenge after being humiliated 3-1 at home by Zambia last month in an African Nations Cup qualifier.
