Coach Effiom wants help from Caf and Fifa. |
The coach of Nigeria's Super Falcons has called for more help from football's governing bodies in developing the women's game in Africa. Ntiero Effiom was speaking after his side were eliminated from the current World Cup at the end of the group stage.
Africa's other representative, Ghana's Black Queens, will also be on their way home shortly, after failing to reach the quarter finals.
Effiom wants a new women's club competition on the continent, to match the men's Champions League.
"Caf should do something about a women's competition in Africa", he said.
"Apart from the African Women's Championship, there should be a club competition too."
He said that would help develop talented women's players within Africa, and would show fans on the continent that their teams had something to offer.
Effiom also called on the game's world governing body Fifa to increase the number of places available for African teams at future world cups.
"Africa has reached the stage in women's football where it should have at least three or four slots" he said.
