Sudan won five of their six matches in qualifying |
Sudan continued their rise in African football by beating Tunisia 3-2 in Omdurman on Sunday, to finish top of Group Four. Tunisia, who qualify for the 2008 Nations Cup as one of the best runners-up, had not conceded a single goal in their previous group matches.
Ala'edeen Babiker gave the hosts the lead in the 25th minute, with Karim Nafti equalising for Tunisia in the 55th minute.
A penalty from Faisal al-Ajab five minutes later put Sudan back in front, and a 74th minute strike by Bashir Hammuda from outside the penalty area made it 3-1.
Francileudo dos Santos scored from the spot in the 82nd.
In the other game in the group, Mauritius were held to a 1-1 draw by Seychelles in Curepipe on Sunday.
Neither side had a chance of qualifying, but the result gives the wooden spoon to Mauritius.
They finish bottom of the group with two points from six matches, while fellow Indian Ocean islanders Seychelles take third position with four points.
