 Kneya finish third in Group Six after the win over Angola |
Kenya snatched a shock 2-1 victory over World Cup finalists Angola in their final Group Six African Cup of Nations qualifier in Nairobi on Saturday.
The game was a mere formality for the Harambee Stars, who finished third in the group with seven points.
Angola had already secured the automatic ticket for the tournament in Ghana as they finished top of the group with 13 points.
The Harambee Stars were keen to take the scalp of the World Cup finalists as a consolation for their dismal showing in the qualifiers.
Patrick Oboya put the home side in the lead in the first half but Angola drew level thanks to a Manucho strike just before the break.
France-based striker Dennis Oliech took advantage of a defensive slip-up to seal the win for the Harambee Stars late in the game.
It was Kenya's second win in the qualifiers after beating Swaziland 2-0 in their opening game.
The game was Angola only defeat since the Group Six qualifiers started in March.
Swaziland and Eritrea drew 0-0 on Sunday, a result that ended Eritrea's hopes of taking one of the best runners-up spots.
Swaziland finished bottom of the table with three draws and three defeats.
