 | I should be capable of double figures this season, but I know I must work even harder and play better |
Zimbabwe's Benjani Mwaruwari has set himself a double-figure target for the season after finally demonstrating his goalscoring abilities. He said: "I should be capable of double figures this season, but I know I must work even harder and play better."
The 4.1m striker has now scored two goals in two games after netting Portsmouth's leveller in the recent 1-1 draw with champions Manchester United.
The striker managed only six goals in 34 appearances last season.
Benjani, who also scored on the opening day of the season against Derby, added: "It is always great to score against a big team like United.
"It would be nice to think we could do that for the rest of the season, it would surely make us champions!
"Whatever happens we are certainly improving. We finished ninth last season but the squad we have now is stronger.
"We have some great forwards and you have to keep scoring to keep your place in the side.
"Happily the fans all seem to be behind me despite the fact I have not scored as many goals as I should have.
"I would love to put that right for them this season."
