Nigeria want Nedum Onuoha to play for them |
Nigeria coach Berti Vogts is hoping to persuade Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha to play for the Super Eagles. Born in southern Nigeria, Onuoha has already played for England under-21's but can switch allegiances as he is yet to play for the senior side.
"The season starts soon in England and I will speak to Onuoha to hear his decision." Berti Vogts said.
As well as the 20-year-old Onuoha Vogts also wants to call up striker Ikechukwu Uche from Spanish side Getafe.
"I also see a player like Uche he has done well and when the season starts there, I will go to Spain to speak to him and maybe pick him," Vogts added.
Vogts had named Onuoha in his first provisional squad as manager in March but now hopes to convince the defender to fully pledge his international future to the Super Eagles.
"He is doing well in England; he is very young and will be a good addition to the team.
"But first I need to speak to him, the most important thing is to know what he thinks."
Meanwhile Vogts is currently in Nigeria and appears to have settled his differences with tthe country's football after a recent meeting.
The NFA had accused Vogts of violating his contractual obligations by not travelling to Nigeria in July as stipulated in his contract.
But the 60-year-old and his employers have now "clarified protocols" - details of which are not being made public.
