Guinea are top of Group Eight with eight points |
Guinea revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2008 Nations Cup after an impressive 2-0 away win over Algeria.
The Sylli Nationale moved to the top of Group Eight after Saturday's victory in Algiers.
Guinea are now equal on points with second-placed Algeria but they have a better head-to-head record.
France-based striker Fode Mansare shocked the home fans with a magnificent strike after combining perfectly with Pascal Feindouno three minutes before the break.
Mansare then turned provider for Feindouno after mesmerizing three defenders with his magic with only six minutes remaining.
The St. Etienne playmaker calmly beat the onrushing goalkeeper Samir Hadjaoui to seal the win for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Gambia and Cape Verde kept up the chase on the leaders after playing out to a 0-0 draw in Praia.
Both sides have five points each and could catch up with the leaders if they win the last round of the qualifiers in September.
Gambia will be at home to Algeria, while Cape Verde travel to Conakry to play Guinea.
