Mbeki (left) says they are on course for the 2010 World Cup |
South Africa president Thabo Mbeki has vowed that his country will surpass Germany's hosting of last year's World Cup.
The southern African country will host the tournament in 2010 but are unhappy at recent reports suggesting they will not be ready.
Fifa's president Sepp Blatter will visit the country later this month on an inspection tour of the facilities for the tournament.
Mbeki said: "Blatter will find us well on course with our preparations for both the Confederations Cup in 2009 and the World Cup in 2010.
"I have no doubt that our local organising committee, government at all levels and everybody concerned will do the necessary work.
"This will guarantee that we host a better tournament in 2010 than the excellent 2006 German World Cup.
Mbeki, who was addressing to parliament in Cape Town, quoted from a recent statement by Blatter that: "Plan A is South Africa, Plan B is South Africa and Plan C is South Africa".
Blatter has previously expressed doubt about the slow start of stadium construction for the tournament, the first time the world's biggest sporting event will be staged on African soil.
