The African Cup of Nations trophy |
Senegal remained top of Group Seven of the 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifiers despite being held 1-1 in Tanzania on Saturday.
In the other game in the group on Sunday Mozambique moved into second place in the pool with a 3-0 win over the visiting Burkina Faso.
Mozambique opened the scoring from the penalty spot through Dario Moteiro who converts after Manuel Tico-Tico is fouled inside the area.
Burkina Faso equalised on 38 minutes through Wilfred Sanou.
Mozambique's Tico-Tico then scored twice himself either side of half-time to complete the victory for the hosts
Senegal had to rely on a second-half equaliser from Demba Ba to earn their point.
The goal for The Teranga Lions cancelled out a first-half strike by Nizal Khalifan who lobbed over Tony Sylva, in the Senegal goal, to give The Taifa Stars the lead after only 15 minutes.
Senegal's Diomansy Kamara had a close-range header saved on the line soon after, but it was Tanzania who dominated most of the match.
The match was played in front of a capacity crowd which included Tanzania's president Jakaya Kikwete.
The results mean that after four matches in the group Senegal have seven points, Mozambique and Tanzania are both two points behind, while Burkina Faso are bottom with four points.
