Mikel Jon Obi is confident Chelsea will maintain their home record |
Nigeria's Mikel John Obi is determined English premier side Chelsea will not surrender their unbeaten home record to newly-crowned champions Manchester United when they play on 9 May. Chelsea have now gone 61 games without defeat in the league at home, a run that stretches back to February 2004.
Mikel said: "We've lost the league but still have the same spirit and momentum that we use to play in every game.
"As far as we are concerned, it is a game we need to win," he added.
Chelsea lost the English Premiership title to Sir Alex Ferguson's men when they drew 1-1 with Arsenal on 6 May.
However, their unbeaten home-form extends back well before the 20-year-old Nigerian joined the club and even pre-dates Portuguese manager Jos Mourinho's arrival.
'Home Record'
If Chelsea avoid defeat against United and Everton on 13 May, then they would match Liverpool's all-time top-flight home record of 63 games unbeaten between February 1978 and January 1981.

"We are still together. We have a lot of injured players but the lads want to go out there and show we are still like champions.
"We want to go and show that next season we will be there. This season is not over yet," Mikel added.
Mikel has emerged as one of the successes of the season for Chelsea after being disciplined by Mourinho early in his career for his slack approach to training.
'Home Record'
The Super Eagle has been a regular in the first team over the last two months and now feels he has nothing more to prove ahead of the FA Cup final match on 19 May - which will once again see Chelsea take on Manchester United.
Mikel added: "It all depends on the manager, he knows what he is doing and he'll make sure he puts his best team out for the cup final.
"Whenever I play, I always want to make sure we play football, we keep the game on the floor and we play attractively.
"The manager always encourages us to play football and we have lots of good players who want to play this way and they enjoy it."
Chelsea could be without key players for the game against Manchester United however.
Germany midfielder Michael Ballack has an injured ankle, Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko has a hernia problem and there are doubts over the fitness of Ivory Coast's in-form striker Didier Drogba.
