Blatter is furious over plans to set up a caretaker committee for KFF |
Kenya Football Federation (KFF) officials will legally challenge the formation of a renegade committee attempting to overtake the running of the sport. Sammy Obingo, the KFF secretary, criticised those in the government who had accepted the formation of the parallel body and pledged to fight on.
"We intend to challenge the legality of this new body in the courts," he said.
The new faction has been widely criticised by world football's governing body Fifa, and could lead to the imposition of another international ban for Kenya if they take control.
The embattled KFF have only recently been re-admitted to international football after a five-month ban imposed by Fifa because of previous government interference.
"There are so many glaring discrepancies," Obingo said confirming they would go to court next week.
New committee
The new committee, composed of officials representing the 19 KFF branches countrywide, staged a coup last week saying they had lost confidence in the national office headed by Mohammed Hatimy and demanded fresh elections.
Fifa had already set 31 May as the date for fresh elections in the KFF to try and quell the power struggles that have been present since the last elections in December 2004.
"This is unbelievable," Fifa's presidential delegate for special affairs, Jerome Champagne said in reaction to the news.
"I discussed this issue again with the Fifa president Sepp Blatter and he is furious.
New suspension
"Once again, a governmental structure (the sports commissioner and the registrar's office) intervened again in a football matter in spite of all statements and principles.
"Mr Blatter even mentioned a new suspension to be brought to the Fifa congress."
Kenya was suspended from international football because of failure to fulfil a 28-point agreement reached in Cairo last year and which called mainly for scrapping of parallel bodies managing the sport.
The ban was only lifted earlier this month after intervention of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), and a commitment from the Kenyan government to take a back-seat.
