Obua keen to emulate father
David Obua
The Kaizer Chiefs forward is hoping to move to Europe later this year

Uganda forward David Obua is desperately hoping he will be able to follow his father and play for the Cranes at a Nations Cup finals.

Obua's father Dennis turned out for Uganda at both the 1974 and 1976 finals, although he was not present when they reached the final in 1978.

"It will be great because my dad played at the Nations Cup finals," the 23-year-old told BBC Sport.

"It would be an honour to go there with this group of players and emulate my dad."

Uganda currently trail Group Three leaders Nigeria by five points and have a mountain to climb if they are to reach their first finals since 1978.

They must beat the Super Eagles, against whom they lost 1-0 in Nigerian on Saturday, at home in Kampala in the next round of qualifiers in June.

"We are fighting to get to Ghana next year," the South Africa-based forward added.

"You have to go out there and fight - not just the players, but the federation and the public - to see how far the team can go.

"We have three games left and we need to focus. The last game will decide who's going where.

"One thing we have is teamwork, and the spirit in the camp is fantastic.

"Everybody loves each other and we all fight for each other.

"We might not have professionals like in Nigeria but we fight every day - and that is what football is all about."

The Kaizer Chiefs star also revealed that he is hoping for a move to Europe when his contract with the Johannesburg club runs out at the end of June.

"I want to play in the (Uefa) Champions League and that is my dream. I will do anything to be there."
