Ahly will play Barcelona in a friendly on 24 April |
African Champions League holders Ahly have confirmed they will play European champions Barcelona in a friendly match on 24 April. The match is part of celebrations to mark the Egyptian club's 100-year anniversary.
Ahly's projected clash with Barcelona follows on from the African champions' match against Real Madrid in 2001.
Ahly are the most successful team in the history of African football winning 99 trophies since their inception.
They have won 31 domestic league titles and 12 African club trophies, including five Champions League titles.
Barcelona are expected to receive nearly US$2m for playing the match and field a strong squad, including star names such as Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi.
The match is to be bankrolled by a conglomerate of Egyptian companies and banks.
