Drogba has been one of Chelsea's key performers this season |
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba insists it would mean nothing to finish as top scorer in the Champions League if the Blues fail to win the tournament.
The Ivory Coast international has smashed 29 goals in all competitions so far and is on course to become the first Chelsea player since Kerry Dixon to score 30 in a season.
Drogba's sensational season has seen him crowned Caf's African Player of the Year and silence the critics who once slammed him for going to ground too easily.
Yet the Elephants captain will take some pleasure if he becomes the first Chelsea player for 22 years to reach the 30-goal mark - as long as the team are winners.
"It would be nothing special if we don't win the Champions League," he said
"I know how big Kerry Dixon was for Chelsea and it will be something great for me to reach his record."
Having struck twice against Arsenal to land the Carling Cup, Drogba says he will only be happy if his goals land the Blues some silverware in Europe.
"There is no interest for me to score if we don't win," he added.
"I want my team to win and everybody to be happy. Even if I don't score until the end of the season it won't matter if we win the Champions League and the FA Cup."
Drogba's exploits in front of goal have put him in line for the coveted PFA Player of the Year award from his fellow professionals.
Drogba, along with Manchester United's Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo, are the two players most likely to fight it out for the prestigious honour.
Yet the Ivorian played down his own chances of adding the English title to the African award, suggesting Ghanaian team-mate Michael Essien and former England international Paul Scholes should also be considered.
"It is difficult for me as everybody is saying me or Ronaldo, but Essien and Scholes are having good seasons and so it is difficult to choose one," he explained.
"Michael has made a big contribution and I think he deserves some big praise for that."
