Caf has suspended the president of the Togo Football Federation |
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has banned the Togo Football Federation (FTF) president, Adaglo Tata Avlessi, for eight years for alleged bribery.
He was found guilty by Caf of attempting to bribe a referee during a group match at the African Under-17 Championship, which Togo hosted in March.
He has vehemently denied the charges and according to Zepp Kout the FTF's general manager Avlessi has appealed against the decision.
Kout added that they had sent Caf new information, which he hoped would prove that Avlessi was not linked to the alleged bribery.
Two match officials involved in the game have also been disciplined because of their involvement in the incident.
Gambian match referee Pa Abdou Sarr has been banned for life for accepting the alleged bribe.
Attivi Atevi Cessi, who was also a match official at the game, has been suspended for four years for allegedly acting as a go-between for the two parties.
