Sevilla's Mali international striker Fredi Kanoute has demanded a pay rise from the Spanish side.

Last month Kanoute, 29, who has two years left on his contract, pledged his future to Sevilla after helping them win the Uefa Cup and the Spanish Cup.

That seemed to dash the interest of a number of English clubs, but Kanoute has hinted he could yet leave Sevilla.

He said: "I need to talk with the club because I want more money. If I leave then my destination will be England."

"I'm happy at Sevilla but I want to be valued the same as my teammates."

Kanoute joined Sevilla in 2005 from Tottenham Hotspur but he is on a lower salary than most of his first-team colleagues.

"Now I have offers so the decision is in my hands," Kanoute added.

"If Sevilla want to sell me then I don't have any problem with that but, logically, I want to decide where I'm going for myself. "

According to reports in the Spanish media, Portsmouth lead the way in the race to bring Kanoute back to the Premiership.

However, Pompey have only put �6m on the table for the Mali striker, whose Sevilla buy-out clause is �17m.

But Sevilla want for a striker who scored 21 goals in the Spanish league and four goals apiece in both the Uefa Cup and Spanish Cup, finding the net in both finals.

"We are only going to start negotiating at �10m," said Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido.
