Ghana finished second in the last edition in Gambia |
Ghana under-17 coach Fred Osam Duodo has resigned just one month before the start of the World Cup in South Korea.
Duodo, who had come under fire for the team's dismal showing at last month's Eight Nations U-17 tournament, said he had decided to quit for "personal reasons".
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will name Duodo's successor in the next 48 hours after accepting his resignation.
"We have to make sure that we put the right coach in place," Randy Abbey, GFA spokesman said.
"We need to ensure Duodo's last minute departure will not have a negative impact on the team.
"The new coach will have to be up to the task of bringing glory to the country and Africa at the World Cup next month," Abbey added.
Duodo secured the Black Starlets' place at the World Cup after leading the team to a third place finish at the African U-17 Championship in Togo in March.
Duodo also led Gambia to the Under-17 World Cup in Peru in 2005 where they beat Brazil 3-1 and to victory at the African U17 Championship in the same year.
Ghana, two-time world champions, will open their World Cup campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on 20 August.
Their other Group F opponents are Germany and Colombia.
