Eto'o was voted third in Fifa's World player last year |
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o is the only African player to have made the 55-man shortlist for honours at the World XI awards organised by FIFPro.
FIFPro, the international players' union, announced the list from a poll taken from its 43,000 members at a congress in Brazil.
Eto'o, who plays for the Spanish side Barcelona, is in contention to make the final eleven, which will be announced in Athens on 6 November.
The striker, who was voted third in Fifa's World player of the year award for 2005, has been Africa's top player for each of the last three seasons.
He has hit 68 goals in 101 games for Barcelona and scored 26 times last season to finish the top scorer in Spain.
