Thuram said Togo reinforced stereotypes about African football

France defender Lilian Thuram has criticised Togo for the money row that disrupted their World Cup campaign.

Togo officials and players were involved in a disagreement over allowances and bonuses before and during the World Cup finals.

The dispute was only resolved when Fifa promised to pay the players their bonuses and deduct the sum from Togo's World Cup appearance fee.

"Togo has given a poor image to international football," Thuram said at a news conference in Lome.

"I think when a team has qualified for the World Cup it should have all these things already sorted out.

"There is already prejudice about the disorganisation of African teams and I don't think it's a good idea to reinforce this.

"Unfortunately Togo gave a bad image of the African teams and I'm very disapointed."
