Parreira says he's been asked to coach Bafana Bafana |
A delegation from the South African FA will travel to Brazil to convince Carlos Alberto Parreira to manage the national side.
The team, which is likely to include Danny Jordaan, the CEO of the 2010 World Cup organising committee, is expected to leave on Wednesday.
Parreira, who quit as coach of Brazil after they were knocked out of the quarter-finals at the World Cup, is interested in the South African job but has asked for further talks.
"It's an honour to receive an invitation from the South African national team as the country will be the centre of attention as hosts of the next World Cup," Parreira said in a statement.
"But this will only happen after sitting down and talking to representatives of the South African Football Association," added the 63-year-old.
Parreira, who led Brazil to their fourth World Cup title in 1994, said the first contact with South Africa was made in Germany last year.
"They called me this week to remind me that they were interested," he said.
"They agreed to come to Brazil at the start of August."
