Radebe will be an ambassador for the 2010 World Cup

Former South Africa defender Lucas Radebe insists the country will be ready to host the World Cup in 2010.

There are concerns over tournament security and organisation but the ex-Leeds player is confident those hurdles will be overcome.

"We realise it's a huge responsibility," he told BBC Sport.

"We've got the infrastructure but it's about developing it and making sure people feel safe. I think we will be ready security-wise."

Radebe was speaking at the launch in Germany of the emblem for the next World Cup as the baton was officially passed to South Africa for the 2010 competition.

He will be playing an ambassadorial role for his country and stressed it would be a different kind of World Cup to the one witnessed in Germany.

He added: "It is a great honour to be given the opportunity and reward to host such a great event.

"We're ready and we appreciate the size of the commitment that goes with it.

"We are not going to be able to do the same as Germany and it has to be an African World Cup.

"Not only that, people should come and see what South Africa - The Rainbow Nation - is all about.

"They should learn the culture and see the flair and talent."
