Phiiri takes charge for a second time |
Patrick Phiri has been named as Zambia's caretaker coach.
Phiri replaces Ben Bamfuchile, who quit the post to become Namibia's national coach.
It will be Phiri's second time in the job, after he was dismissed from the national manager's post three years ago.
Henschel Chitembeya, the technical committee chairman of the Football Association of Zambia, told BBC Sport that Phiri will stay in charge until a permanent replacement is found.
"Patrick has been our coach before and he has tremendous experience," Chitembeya said.
"As an interim measure, he will be in charge of the team for next month's Cosafa Cup matches.
"We have confidence that he is a good coach who will do us proud."
Chitembeya announced Phiri would be assisted by Fighton Simukonda, who coaches Zambian champions Zanaco.
The national manager's job had been vacant since the resignation of Kalusha Bwalya in April.
Ben Bamfuchile was appointed interim coach before he agreed a three-year deal with Namibia.
