Zambian Ben Bamfuchile has signed a three-year contract to manage Namibia's national side.
Bamfuchile, who had been the caretaker coach of the Zambian national side, quit the job on Monday to take up his new post.
"To be honest, the offer from Namibia was just too good to refuse," Bamfuchile told BBC Sport.
"I had to take my family's future into consideration before arriving at this decision.
"Financially, it's a very good contract and I think the Namibians are serious with what they are doing.
"It's unfortunate that our association in Zambia has never offered me a contract since 2003.
"It was as if I was forcing the football assocation of Zambia to offer me a contract. But with the Namibians, it was the opposite."
Bamfuchile took over the Zambian side after Kalusha Bwalya quit the post after their exit from the African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.
But he is now faced with the immediate task of reviving the fortunes of Namibia, who have not qualified for the African Cup of Nations since 1998.
"The most important thing is to make Namibia improve their world ranking.
"After that, I will start thinking about qualifying for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations finals," Bamfuchile said.
