Angola are preparing for their first World Cup finals |
Angola continued their World Cup preparations with a 3-1 victory over Lesotho on Sunday to win their Cosafa Cup mini-tournament.
It was second game in two days for Angola who had overcome Mauritius 5-1 on Saturday, in the southern African regional competition.
Ze Kalanga scored twice and Mateus, playing in only his second appearance for the Palancas Negras, got the other.
Lesotho, hoping for an upset result in front of their home fans, were always on the back foot after having captain Motlatsi Shale sent off in the 15th minute.
He was dismissed for punching Angolan defender Jamba in an off-the-ball incident.
Lesotho battled gamely against a superior Angolan side until just after half-time when their defences were breached.
First Mateus scored with a shot off the underside of the crossbar before Ze Kalanga added a second two minutes later with an easy tap-in after a flick on from captain Fabrice Akwa.
Ze Kalanga's third goal in the 61st minute was a stunning half volley from the edge of the penalty area.
Lesotho got a consolation goal with the last touch of the game when Angolan goalkeeper Joao Ricardo was caught out of position by Bushy Moletsane.
Angola's win puts them through to the semi-finals of the Cosafa Cup.
They will be joined by holders Zimbabwe and the winners of the two others groups still to be played in May and July.
