Quitongo is recalled to the squad after joining Partick Thistle |
World Cup finalists Angola have named Scotland-based winger Jose Quitongo among nine uncapped players in a preliminary squad for their Cosafa Cup assignment this month.
Coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves picked Quitongo among five foreign-based players in a squad of 27 for the mini-tournament in Lesotho at the end of April.
Quitongo returned to action only last week after being signed by third division Partick Thistle following his release by Alloa at the start of the year.
Also named in the Angola squad for the first time is Belgium-based midfielder Mateus Matinungina.
Angola meet Mauritius in Maseru on 29 April in one of two semi-final matches and play again the next day against either Lesotho or Mozambique in the group final or third place play-off match.
Most of Goncalves' selected players are on the fringe of World Cup selection and the trip to Lesotho will be the last chance for many to impress in their bid for places in the squad that will go to Germany in June.
The 27-man squad for Lesotho includes nine players who competed at the African Nations Cup finals in January in Egypt where Angola failed to get past the first round.
The Palancas Negras play their first World Cup match against Portugal in Cologne on 11 June.
They will then face Iran and Mexico in their first round group.
