World Cup finalists Angola are playing South Korea |
Four of Africa's five World Cup representatives are in international friendly action on Wednesday.
And two of them, Ghana and Tunisia will be hoping to have a chance to redeem themselves after disappointing performances at the African Nations Cup.
Angola lost 0-1 to South Korea in Seoul, Ghana are in the USA to take on Mexico while Tunisia host Serbia and Montenegro.
Elsewhere the Ivory Coast face Spain in Vallodolid, with Togo the only African qualifier not in action.
Ivory Coast v Spain
Of Africa's World Cup finalists, only the Ivory Coast came out of the Nations Cup with aplomb and take their preparations up a level with a tough match against Spain in Valladolid.
Didier Drogba, who missed a penalty in the final shootout that saw Egypt win a record fifth Nations Cup triumph, returns to captain a side that is expected to show no major changes from the deciding match in Cairo on 10 February.
Coach Henri Michel has recalled four players to his squad and also handed a first call-up to the Lazio midfielder Christian Manfredini, born in the Ivory Coast but adopted by Italian parents at a young age.
Manfredini is expected to miss the match, however, after being injured early in the Rome derby on Sunday, which Lazio lost 2-0 to Roma.
Last week Manfredini finally agreed to a call-up from the Ivorians, with the temptation of a chance to play at the World Cup outweighing his previous desire to wait for a chance to play for Italy.
Tunisia v Serbia and Montenegro
Bordeaux's David Jemmali is set to make his debut for Tunisia |
Bordeaux defender David Jemmali has also agreed to an international future with Tunisia after rejecting their advances over several years.
He is almost certain to make his debut in Wednesday's match against Serbia and Montenegro at Rades.
"He is a player of high quality but it depends on his own will as to how well he integrates into the team," said Tunisia coach Roger Lemerre.
"We hope to benefit from his technical expertise that come from playing in a high level competition."
Tunisia were quarter-finalists at the Nations Cup, unable to successfully defend their title.
Ghana v Mexico
Ghana, who were also surprisingly eliminated at the first hurdle in Egypt, have Chelsea's Michael Essien back for their match in Dallas against Mexico but must do without injured Borussia Dortmund striker Mathew Amoah.
Also missing will be Arminia Bielefeld striker Issac Boakye who failed to get an America visa on time, the Ghana Football Association reported on Tuesday.
Boakye's place is taken by Leicester City's Elvis Hammond, who has yet to win a cap for the Black Stars.
First choice goalkeeper Sammy Adjei is also unavailable and is replaced by Philemon McCarthy.
Other news from friendlies
Togo, who lost all three of their games at the Nations Cup finals, had been trying to organise a game with the DR Congo which has since been cancelled.
But Chiyoka Bashige, the secretary general of the DR Congo's Football Federation, said his team would be unable to fulfil the fixture.
"We've told the Togo Football Federation that we can't get our players together because they are preparing fo the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup with their clubs," he said.
"We are so sorry for Togo who are preparing the World Cup but since we are not involved in any competition at the moment, we've decided not to go to Lome."
One other African side in action are Senegal who will play Norway in Dakar, and the game is to be followed by a concert featuring Youssou N'dour, Alpha Blondy, Angelique Kidjo, a-ha and Lauryn Hill.
