Perpetua Nkwocha, the African female Player of the Year, has accused her Nigerian club, Pelican Stars of Calabar, of frustrating her plans to seek a professional career abroad.
Nkwocha, whose goals helped Nigeria's Super Falcons to their fourth consecutive African title in South Africa, said Pelican Stars have gone back on an agreement to allow her to complete a loan deal with Chinese club Tianjin.
Pelican Stars have claimed that her three-month loan deal with Tianjin has expired and Nkwocha had refused to return to Nigeria to rejoin them.
But the striker insists that she was to have stayed for a longer period.
"They should not have that belief [that I was to have stayed for three months]," she told BBC Sport from China, where she is still with Tianjin.
"I requested for a six-month loan and that period was to end in September.
"I had to phone one of the club's officials to ask why my reputation is being damaged, with all the negative news reports going around the world.
"What wrong have I done to them?" Nkwocha asked.
"Before I signed for Pelican Stars, they knew that I was about to travel."
Nkwocha told BBC Sport that she will not sign another contract with Pelican Stars or any other Nigerian club when her current deal runs out in December.
"I am not happy to be playing in the Nigerian league.
"I have played in it for several years and it is time to play in another country, where things are better organised.
"It is my dream to play professional football and I intend to sign a proper professional contract next year," Nkwocha told BBC Sport.
