Tagoe was the top scorer in last season's Ghanaian championship

Ghana striker Prince Tagoe has joined Asian club champions Al Ittihad.

Tagoe, who was the top scorer in last season's Ghanaian championship with Accra Hearts of Oak, completed his move to the Saudi Arabian side on Monday.

"I'm happy to have joined a big side like Al Ittihad and hope to make the best of my time there," he told BBC Sport.

"I'm delighted to have met the expectations of the club president, who spoke glowingly about his love for me, which was quite overwhelming.

"When a big club like that comes for you, then you feel wanted and you don't think twice about it."

It was a dramatic move for the 19-year-old, as German side FSV Mainz were reportedly on the verge of completing a deal with him.

But Alhaji Muhammed Musa, Tagoe's business manager, said the Al Ittihad offer was too good to turn down.

"He is young and his future matters a lot to us, so when a club makes an offer that triples his valuation, you don't reject such a deal," Musa told BBC Sport.

"He has his sights set on Europe and a move will come at the right time."

Al Ittihad already have two high-profile Africans at their club - Sierra Leone striker Mohammed Kallon and Cameroonian Joseph Desire Job.

Mansour Al Abwei, president of Al Ittihad, told BBC Sport that he has been impressed with the pair, which influenced his decision to add another African player to the club's ranks.

"Job and Kallon were outstanding last season and we felt it was wise to compliment their effort with another African," he said.
