Clockwatch: Tunisia 2-0 South Africa

Goalflashes and major incidents (all times GMT):

1957: FULL-TIME Tunisia 2-0 South Africa
The defending champions survived some early scares to see off an inexperiences South African team and qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations.

1950: Issam Jomaa has made a good impression in the short time he has had on the pitch and he crosses from the left, but there is not a Tunisian in sight in the South African box.

1945: Hamed Namouchi gets his head to a cross from the right but it was just a fraction behind him and he cannot direct it goalwards.

1944: Francileudo dos Santos is replaced by Haikel Guemamdia as Roger Lemerre rings the changes with the game wrapped up.

1941: Slim Benachour is taken off for Tunisia and Issam Jomaa is brought on in his place.

1939: Siyabonga Nomvete again creates space for himself down the left and he finds time to pick out Benni McCarthy in the box, only for the striker to mis-control the ball as another chance goes begging.

1935: Sibusiso Zuma is finally withdrawn and Siyabonga Nkosi comes on in his place.

1934: Pierre Issa slips and it looks like Francileudo dos Santos is through, but he shoots wildly over the bar from a difficult angle 15 yards out.

1932: South Africa are still plugging away and Sibusiso Zuma drags a shot badly wide. The captain looks like he is struggling and will soon be replaced.

1928: South Africa make the first change, with Ricardo Katza being replaced by Siboniso Gaxa.

1927: Benedict Vilakazi gets away down the right and crosses for Subusiso Zuma, but the striker's acrobatic effort is blocked by Radhi Jaidi.

1925: Chaoki Ben Saada looks desperate to get on the scoresheet and he skips effortlessly past two challenges before slamming in a fabulous left-foot shot from 35 yards that only just goes over the crossbar.

1923: Tunisia are rampant and Vuyo Mere gives the ball away to Adel Chedli, who has a shot well-saved by Calvin Marlin. The rebound falls to Francileudo dos Santos but the angle is too tight and his shot goes into the side-netting.

1919: GOAL Tunisia 2-0 South Africa
Slim Benachour
surely puts the defending champions into the quarter-finals with a stunning finish, rifling high into the net from 15 yards after a neat pull-back from Hatem Trabelsi down the right.

1917: Slim Benachour is furious he is denied a penalty after tumbling in the South African area, while moments later at the other end Siyabonga Nomvete forces a brilliant save at full stretch from the 39-year-old Ali Boumnijel.

1913: Chaoki Ben Saada links well with Slim Benachour and is crudely brought down on the edge of the South African penalty area. But Ben Saada curls the resulting free-kick woefully high over the crossbar.

1911: Hamed Namouchi and Ricardo Katza both go down injured after a 50-50 challenge and it looks like the South African has come off worse.

1910: Siyabonga Nomvete finds some room 25 yards out and gets a shot on target, but it is too weak and straight at Ali Boumnijel.

1908: The half has barely started and the irrepressible Francileudo dos Santos is already in the hunt for more goals - denied this time by a clearing header from Pierre Issa.

1907: The second half starts in Alexandria, with Tunisia fortunate to be leading South Africa 1-0.

1841: Francileudo dos Santos is in the thick of the action - and it is no wonder, for the striker's goal puts him level with Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o on four for the tournament, in just his second game.

1837: Hamed Namouchi weaves in and out of the South African defence down the right, but his cross is marginally too far ahead of an on-rushing Chaoki Ben Saada.

1832: GOAL Tunisia 1-0 South Africa
Francileudo dos Santos puts the defending champions ahead against the run of play, capitalising on a Benni McCarthy mistake and rifling home from 20 yards, though Calvin Marlin will feel he should have saved it.

1826: The South African strikers are now terrorising Tunisia and Sibusiso Zuma plays Benni McCarthy clean through. The Porto striker is desperately unlucky to see his 18-yard shot cannon back off the post with Ali Boumnijel well beaten.

1825: Tunisia are looking increasingly unimpressive and Benni McCarthy sees another shot deflected into the arms of Ali Boumnijel as he and Sibusiso Zuma cause problems.

1822: Subusiso Zuma is the first man in the book for a crude trip on Radhi Jaidi. But the signs generally are more promising for South Africa, who are playing their way back into the game.

1820: Benni McCarthy goes agonisingly close with a 20-yard free-kick, which narrowly slips past Ali Boumnijel's left-hand post.

1818: South Africa create their first opening as Benni McCarthy feeds Sibusiso Zuma, who fires high over the crossbar.

1816: Radhi Jaidi is perhaps lucky not to be booked for a reckless, sliding lunge on Siyabonga Nomvete down the South African left.

1814: Slim Benachour blazes over from 30 yards, with Francileudo dos Santos pleading for a pass through the middle. It seems a matter of time before the lacklustre South Africans go behind.

1810: Hatem Trabelsi gets away in plenty of space down the right and his cross is converted by Francileudo dos Santos. However, to the Tunisians' amazement, the assistant referee disallows the goal for offside - a farcical decision.

1809: Calvin Marlin makes a save to deny Karim Hagui's header from a corner, as rain begins to pour down in Alexandria.

1807: Mbulelo Mabizela makes a timely interception in the South African penalty area as the lively Francileudo dos Santos looks for an opening.

1806: Tunisia goalkeeper Ali Boumnijel mis-kicks a clearance and is lucky to get away with it.

1804: Tunisia's hat-trick hero from their opening game, Francileudo dos Santos, gets in his first shot of the game but it takes a slight deflection and is comfortably saved by Calvin Marlin.

1801: Tunisia's Hatem Trabelsi plays a dangerous-looking ball into the South Africa box, but no-one gambles on getting forward for the defending champions.

1800: The day's second Group C match kicks off in Alexandria.

1745:Tunisia make five changes from their first game, with Anis Ayari, Slim Benachour, Chaoki Ben Saada, Jaohar Mnari and Hamed Namouchi all called into the team.

South Africa leave out Jimmy Tau, Lebohang Mokoena and Sibusiso Zuma as Vuyo Mere, Simphiwe Tshabalala and Elrio van Heerden are brought into the team.
