Appiah's equaliser for Fenerbahce earnes him Uefa's goal of the year |
European football's governing body, Uefa have named a goal by Ghana captain Stephen Appiah as the best strike in the Champions league in 2005.
Appiah scored the equaliser for his Turkish team Fenerbahe SK in their 19 October Uefa champions League tie against FC Schalke 04 of Germany.
According to the Uefa website, Appiah's goal was " better than Ronaldinho's similar and more famous strike against Chelsea FC last season."
Appiah's goal was key for his team coming with 13 minutes left in the game after his side was trailing 3-2 at home to Schalke.
Fenerbahe looked likely to suffer a costly defeat but the midfielder though, kept his head as the ball came to him outside the area on the right.
The Ghanaian summer signing produced a stunning volley that arced over Schalke goalie Frank Rost and into the top left-hand corner.
