Marc Zoro was left in tears |
Italy's Football Federation has directed that the next round of league matches be delayed by five minutes, in order for players to protest against the racist treatment of Marc Zoro. The Ivory Coast defender, who plays for Serie A side Messina, threatened to leave the field after fans of Inter Milan racially taunted him during Sunday's game.
Italian Cup fixtures, fixed for midweek, will also see players taking to the field, holding banners declaring 'No to Racism'.
Jeered by Inter fans throughout the game, Zoro picked up the ball in the 66th minute and was about to leave the pitch until players pleaded with him to continue with the game.
The Ivorian defender said it was not the first time he had been the subject of racist taunting during his eight years in Italian football.
"It has happened many times, always, wherever I go," he Zoro said.
