Gili was a former coach of Marseille |
Frenchman Gerard Gili has been named as the new assistant to Ivory Coast coach Henri Michel. Gili, 53, is a former coach of Olympique Marseille and Egypt and also managed French Ligue One clubs Girondins Bordeaux, Montpellier and Bastia.
His appointment strengthens Ivory Coast's technical team before next year's World Cup finals in Germany.
Gili will join up with Michel and the Ivorian squad for a friendly against Italy in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday.
This follows their 2-1 victory over Romania 2-1 in a friendly in France on Saturday.
Mama Ouattara, Michel's previous deputy, died last year and former international Francis Zahoui turned down the job last month.
