The South African Football Association (Safa) has announced that it will retain the services of national coach Stuart Baxter despite the country's failure to qualify for next year's World Cup. Stuart Baxter has been predicting his own demise as national coach but Safa CEO Raymond Hack said his organisation would not cut short Baxter's contract, which ends in June 2006.
"As far as we are concerned Baxter is our coach until he tells us otherwise," Hack said on Monday.
"I have already been discussing our planning for the Nations Cup with him."
Baxter's future has been the subject of much speculation after South Africa's failure to qualify for Germany 2006.
It was a source of embarrassment for the nation that will host the finals in 2010.
Baxter, who has been unhappy with his working conditions, told the South African media he expected to be sacked after missing out on World Cup qualification.
But the British coach is scheduled to take charge of Bafana Bafana for a friendly match against Senegal in Port Elizabeth on 13 November.
