Ahly fans are hoping to conquer Africa for the fourth time |
Egypt's Ahly booked their place in the Champions League final for the first time in four years when beating Cairo rivals Zamalek 2-0 in Sunday's return-leg semi-final.
The victory takes the Egyptian side through 4-1 on aggregate, and sets up a mouth-watering clash with Tunisia's Etoile Sahel later this month.
Mohamed Barakat was the inspirational performer for Ahly who dominated the match after a sluggish first half.
Barakat opened the scoring after half-time when breaking from midfield before thumping home a strike from just outside the edge of the box.
The Ahly star then wrapped up the scoring late in the match when tapping home from six yards out following a neat backheel from Mohamed Abou Trika.
Barakat could have opened the scoring in the first half but missed a good chance after 13 minutes and then, just before half-time, he crossed for Emad Moted whose tame header was straight at the goalkeeper.
Zamalek had chances to score themselves, notably after 38 minutes when Gamal Hamza flashed a header into the side netting from close range.
But once Ahly went two goals ahead, Zamalek fans started leaving the stadium.
Ahly are now into their first Champions League final since winning the competition in 2001.
The Cairo giants have won the tournament three times and now have the chance to move closer to Zamalek's tally of five victories.
Ahly also previously triumphed in 1982 and 1987.
The winner of the Champions League final, which will be played on the weekends of 28-30 October and 11-13 November, will represent Africa at Fifa's inaugural World Club Championship in Japan.
