Emmanuel Adebayor is keen to take Togo to the World Cup finals |
Togo striker Emmanuel 'Sheyi' Adebayor says playing at the World Cup is an honour every player relishes.
The Hawks need just a draw against Congo in Brazzaville on Saturday to qualify for their first ever World Cup finals.
The 21-year-old, who plays for the French side Monaco, told BBC Sport: "It will be a dream come true if we qualify for the World Cup finals.
"Great players before us like Abedi Pele of Ghana, George Weah of Liberia didn't have the opportunity to play at the World Cup.
"Another great player Andriy Shevchenko of Ukraine will be going to the World Cup for the first time.
"Many great players after us might not even have the opportunity to play at the World Cup.
"If we qualify for the World Cup our names will never be forgotten by the people of Togo."
However, he admits that Saturday's match will be an arduous task for the Hawks.
Togo, who lead Group One with 20 points, beat the Congolese 2-0 in their previous meeting in this World Cup qualifiers.
"I know it is not going to be an easy match because they want a revenge for the 2-0 defeat we inflicted on them last year," Adebayor told BBC Sport.
"Having beaten top African footballing countries like Senegal, Zambia and Mali, I am confident we will be able to carry out the task.
"If I have to kill someone to reach Germany next year, I will," a determined Adebayor concluded.
