Zamalek want their match against Ahly to be played at the Ismaili stadium.

Egyptian club Zamalek have asked the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to switch the venue of their Champions League semi-final against local rivals Ahly.

Zamalek, who host the first leg on Sunday, wanted the tie to be played at the Seka Hadeed stadium in Cairo but their request was turned down by the local security authorities.

"We have approached Caf to change the venue," Zamalek board member Khaled Latif told BBC Sport.

"We took this decision after security authorities refused our first-choice venue, Seka Hadeed stadium, in the capital Cairo."

Zamalek officials are now requesting that the match be played at the Ismaili stadium, which is 100 kilometres away from the Egyptian capital.

However, Zamalek need to get an official approval from Ahly, who are apprehensive about a change in match venue.

"We are not going to approve the match being held in Ismailia and we are 100 percent sure about that," Khaled Mortagy, an Ahly board member, told BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, there are serious doubts about whether Caf will allow Ismaili's stadium to host what is expected to be a highly-charged encounter.

Ismaili cannot use their own ground for African club competitions because Caf banned it following their poor organization of the 2003 Champions League final.

Fans rioted after their team lost the title to Nigeria's Enyimba which resulted in several injuries to fans.
