Lesotho beat Angola 2-1 in Group B of the African Youth Championships in Benin on Wednesday, while leaders Morocco drew 2-2 with Egypt.

Morocco maintain pole position on goal difference over their North African rivals, but Lesotho's success is the surprise result of the competition so far.

The small mountain kingdom is competing in its first ever continental finals, but achieved a famous victory thanks to goals from Dlomo Monaphathi and Bokang Mothoana.

"We are proud today; this is our first major football competition in Africa and we have three points," ecstatic Lesotho coach Sephephe Matete told BBC Sport.

"This is very important for us but now we must work towards qualifying for the next round."

Both Lesothan strikes came late in the first half, and followed Manuel Zando's opener for Angola in the 28th minute.

The Angolans can no longer qualify for the semi-finals as they have no points from two games, while both Morocco and Egypt have four with just one tie left.

The battle for places in the last four will go down to the wire as three teams go into the final day of group matches on Sunday with a chance of reaching the semi-finals.

The north African derby had been dull for the first forty-five minutes but the game came to life two minutes into the second half when Egypt took the lead.

Mahmoud Alla ran onto a pass from Attia Mohammed on the left and worked his way into the penalty area before unleashing a left-footed shot past Morocco goalkeeper Mohammed Bourkadi.

But the lead lasted barely three minutes as Morocco instantly fought back.

Mouhssine Iajour took advantage of some slack Egyptian defending to control a pass on the edge of the six-yard box and place his shot past goalkeeper Ibrahim Mohammed.

And with fifteen minutes of normal time remaining, Tarik Benadmou turned the game on its head as he gave the Moroccans a deserved lead.

The defending champions did not go down without a fight and earned a valuable point six minutes from time when Islam Siam blasted home from close range after Morocco failed to clear an Egyptian free-kick.
