Eboue out to emulate Toure
Arsenal and Ivory Coast's Emmanuel Eboue
Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue wants to emulate compatriot Kolo Toure
Arsenal's new Ivorian signing Emmanuel Eboue says that he wants to emulate his compatriot Kolo Toure as a regular for club and country.

The 20-year-old made his Arsenal debut in last weekend's FA Cup victory against Stoke just a few days after completing his US$2.8 million move in a five-year deal from Belgian club Beveren.

With Cameroon's Lauren still sidelined by a knee injury, he could keep his place at Bolton in the Barclays Premiership on Saturday as Arsenal look to keep their title campaign on track.

Eboue is already looking to make an impact with Arsenal - as well as targeting a place at the 2006 World Cup finals if the Ivory Coast qualify.

"From a very young age, I had the ambition to play in England," he said.

"I feel it is extraordinary to make my debut so quickly after joining and in a competition like the FA Cup as well.

"But it is a very good chance for me to improve and to use that improvement for the Ivory Coast national team. Great things are expected of us, and I hope that playing in England can cement my place in the team.

"My ambitions are to play more games for Arsenal, become a regular at international level and play at the 2006 World Cup."

Eboue, who made his Ivory Coast debut last September against Sudan, looks likely to feature regularly alongside his compatriot Toure in the future for the Elephants.

The pair were spotted by former French international Jean-Marc Guillou, who set up a youth academy for Asec Mimosas in the Ivory Coast capital of Abidjan with financial help from Beveren.

While Toure went straight to Arsenal from Asec in 2002, Eboue made the move via Beveren who have become something of a feeder club for Arsenal.

Wenger, who has a close friendship with Guillou, is kept informed of the best prospects from the academy - and having given Eboue an extended trial during six pre-season games, he made his move to sign him in November.
