 Benin's football fans are looking forward to the African Youth Championship |
Hosts Benin and debutants Lesotho have been handed tough groups for the African Youth Championship taking place in January. The draw for the under-20 tournament, which Benin will host, was made in the capital Cotonou on Saturday.
Benin are in Group A, alongside Nigeria, the Ivory Coast and Mali.
Lesotho, appearing in their first continental finals, were drawn in Group B with Egypt, Angola and Morocco.
The Ivory Coast and Mali play the tournament's opening match on 15 January at the Stade de l'Amite in Cotonou.
Nigeria meet Benin in the subsequent game at the same venue.
Lesotho face Morocco in their opening match scheduled for the next day.
The top two teams from both groups go into the knockout stages of the tournament and automatically qualify for the World Youth Championship in Holland, scheduled for June 2005.
