Cranes announce squad
Joel Kitamirike

Uganda have named their squad for the 2006 World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

Cranes coach Mike Mutebi has announced a 27-man squad for the game in Kampala on Saturday.

One notable absentee is defender Ibrahim Sekajja, who scored for Uganda in their 1-0 defeat of DR Congo in their first Group Two qualifier.

Mutebi has brought in nine players to the squad that lost 1-0 to Cape Verde on 20 June.

Israel Emuge, Dan Mubiru and Mohamed Nsubuga come into midfield, while there are five new faces in attack.

James Katajwa, Jamir Kyambadde, Tony Mawejje, Tony Ojara and Eugenese Ssepuuya were all absent from the shock defeat to Cape Verde.

In defence, Joel Kitamirike has been selected for Uganda, although the Chelsea teenager is unlikely to play since he would lose his British citizenship by doing so.

Under Ugandan immigration law, it is not permitted to hold dual nationality.

The Cranes currently lie fifth in Group Two, where all six teams are tied on three points apiece.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Ibrahim Mugisha (URA FC), Hamza Muwonge (Gqaba United FC), Postnet Omwony (SC Villa)

Defenders: Timothy Batabaire (SC Villa), Sulaiman Tenywa Bonsu (New York-New Jersey MetroStars, America), Nestory Kizito (Srem FC, Serbia & Montenegro), Joel Kitamirike (Chelsea, England), Andrew Mwesigwa (SC Villa), Sony Serunjobi (Kampala City Council)

Midfielders: Johnson Bagoole (Iganga), Asan Bajope (Kampala City Council), Israel Emuge (Express), Noah Kasule (Kampala City Council), Dan Mubiru (Police FC), Mohamed Nsubuga (Ferro Carril Oeste, Argentina), James Odoch (APR FC, Rwanda), Phillip Ssozi (Srem FC, Serbia & Montenegro), Abubakar Tabula (Kampala City Council)

Forwards: Joseph Kabagambe (SC Villa), Alimansi Kadogo (Kampala City Council), James Katajwa (Gqaba United FC), Jamir Kyambadde (Dong Tham Brick, Vietnam), Tony Mawejje (Kampala City Council), Hassan Mubiru, David Obua (both Express FC), Tony Ojara (Masaka LC), Eugene Ssepuuya (Alabama A+M University, America).
