A three-man inspection team from the Caf is in Ghana to assess the country's suitability to host the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Ghana is in the race with Libya to host the event, following the withdrawal of South Africa's bid.

South Africa pulled out after winning the vote to host the 2010 World Cup.

The Caf inspection team is led by Nigeria's Patrick Okpono and includes the assistant director of Caf competitions Dr Adnan El Guindy, and Walter Gagg, Fifa director of security.

They will spend four days in Ghana inspecting proposed stadia, hotels, transportation and telecommunication facilities for the event.

Plans are already underway to build or redvelop much of Ghana's stadium facilities for the event.

The Ghana CAN 2008 bid team say they have plans to substantially upgrade the Accra and Kumasi Stadiums both venues for the 1978 and 2002 Nations Cup and build two new grounds in Sekondi and Tamale for the 2008 tournament.

The Caf inspection team will start work in Accra on Friday, move to Kumasi on Saturday and round up with Sekondi and Tamale on Sunday and Monday.

Ghana CAN 2008 bid chairman Dr Kofi Amoah told BBC Sport that they want the Caf inspectors to leave with a clear understanding that Ghana will be ready and able to host the Nations Cup in 2008.

Ghana is selling its case by highlighting what bid officials call the country's passion for the game.

The official slogan for the bid is 'Sharing Passion,' which Dr Amoah says amply communicates why Ghana will be a good venue for the Nations Cup.

"We think that if you were to pick five African countries with a deep passion for football, Ghana will be one of them and we want to share that with Africa and the world in 2008."

The inspection team moves to Libya later this month to inspect facilities there.

A decision on who will host the event will be made on 8 July.
