Bwalya is looking to lead Zambia to their first World Cup finals |
Zambia coach Kalusha Bwalya hopes that the Chipolopolo can build on their 1-0 victory over Togo to reach their first World Cup finals.
The Zambians won Saturday's Group One fixture after Jacob Mulenga scored the only goal after 12 minutes.
"It was a well-played game by Zambia," Bwalya told BBC Sport.
"We created the chances and I think everybody was very concentrated (on their job).
"We have to build on this. We have the players and the commitment so hopefully we can build on this result."
"Togo are a good side but we are very happy with the three points."
Although Zambia's win delighted Bwalya, the result was a letdown for Togo's new Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi whose first competitive match in charge of the Hawks ended in defeat.
The former Super Eagles captain took charge of Togo in April, but was disappointed with his side's performance in a packed Independence Stadium in Lusaka.
"I'm not satisfied with my players," Keshi said.
"Their quality is much better than this, and we didn't show our true form.
Keshi was disappointed by the Hawks' performance |
"We didn't play well throughout 90 minutes, and we sat back.
"The Zambian boys wanted victory and they got it."
Zambia are one of three teams on three points at the top of Group One, and travel to Mali for their next fixture on 19 June.
Meanwhile, Togo are at home a day later to Senegal's Teranga Lions, who opened their group campaign with a 2-0 victory at home to Congo.
The 2006 World Cup qualifiers double as qualifying matches for the Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier that year.
