Juventus' Steven Appiah will captain Ghana against Burkina Faso |
Ghana have called up nineteen Europe-based players for their 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier against neighbours Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on 5 June. The squad, which will be led by Stephen Appiah of Italian side Juventus, are due to meet for a training camp in Accra from on 28 May, before they fly to Ouagadougou on 4 June.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said that coach Mariano Barreto will name the local-based players for the squad after this weekend's continental club games involving four Ghanaian sides.
Barreto has included six players from the under-23 squad that helped Ghana qualify for this year's Athens Olympics.
The squad also includes Bayern Munich's Samuel Osei Kufuor and Michael Essien of French champions Lyon, there is also a recall for PSV Eindhoven defender Eric Addo who last appeared for Ghana at the 1998 African Cup of Nations.
The GFA had earlier dropped plans for the team to train in France and play Guinea in a friendly before the Burkina Faso game pointing to the difference in the weather between Paris and Ouagadougou.
