 Marcel Desailly says he will retire from international football in August |
France captain Marcel Desailly will end his international career in August after a friendly against his native Ghana in Rennes. According to a French newspaper the veteran Chelsea defender will officially announce his decision in an interview with a football magazine in June.
The 35-year-old Desailly has so far earned 113 caps for France.
He is considering playing for another season at club level with Chelsea despite speculation that he might play in Qatar next season.
The player has also denied rumours that he may be returning to his former French club Marseille.
Desailly is in the France squad for Thursday's Fifa centenary match against world champions Brazil in Paris.
