Rwanda's APR continued their impressive form in the Champions League on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Africa Sport of the Ivory Coast.

A 60th minute goal by striker Olivier Karekezi was enough to give the army side victory in the second round match.

Karekezi capitalised on a Jimmy Gatete pass for his winner.

The in-form Gatete dribbled past two defenders before setting-up Karekezi in front of goal.

Africa Sport defender Wise Aristide was sent off in the 63rd minute for appearing to stamp on APR's Sirengo.

"We played well especially in the second half, but missed alot of chances. We will have to work hard in the second leg," said APR coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira.

In Algiers, USMA were comfortable 2-0 winners over Asante Kotoko of Ghana.

Mahieddine Meftah opened the scoring for the home side after 16 minutes and Moncef Ouichaoui sealed it 13 minutes from time.

Kotoko had two players sent off in the second half. Kweku Ewffien was the first to see red and Joseph Hendricks followed him five minutes before the end of the game.

The Ghanaian side's German coach Hans-Dieter Schmidt was also sent from the sidelines near the end of the second half.

South Africa's Orlando Pirates overcame Bakili Bullets of Malawi 2-1 in Port Elizabeth.

Pirates were awarded a penalty after just 19 minutes and Edelbert Dinha made no mistake with his spot kick.

Benedict Vilakazi doubled the score for the home team just before half-time while Ganizani Malunga picked up at late consolation for the visitors.

There was success for another South Africa side, SuperSport United, who beat Sudan's Al-Hilal 2-0 thanks to goals from Aubin Takuchie and Abram Raselemane.

In Tunisia, Esperance soundly thrashed last year's Caf Cup finalists, Cotonsport of Cameroon, 3-0.

Ibrahim Diaky's 11th-minute goal got things started for the Tunisians, and Ali Zitouni soon followed it up just nine minutes later.

Esperance then missed a penalty midway through the second half before Diaky got his second on 77 minutes to make Esperance odds-on to proceed to the group stage.

But a less lucky Tunisian side was Etoile Sahel - they lost 1-0 to Ghana's Hearts of Oak.

Francis Boffman got the only goal, netting just before half time.

In Nigeria, Enyimba drew 1-1 with Petro Athletico of Angola in one of the more surprising results of the round.

Petro stunned their hosts in the 27th minute as Flavio's ferocious strike gave the Angolans a first half lead.

But Enyimba began the second half more determined and their pressure paid off courtesy a goalmouth melee in the 67th minute, Emeka Nwani capitalising on a poor clearance from an Enyimba corner to level.

Senegal's Jeanne d'Arc were 2-0 winners at home over Cameroonian side Canon Yaounde.
